Massive pressure to cut ticket prices along with high fuel costs most certain shall prevent many of the world's major airlines, from making a profit in the current financial year. However two of the top carriers to Panama are showing the following: Continental Airlines (CAL), with revenues of $15.2 billion in 2008, will earn $0.33 per share in 2009.
Copa Holdings (CPA) of Panama, with revenues of $1.3 billion in 2008, will earn $4.22 per share in 2009. PanAm Airlines helped start Copa in 1947. The founders of PanAm, Juan Trippe and Sam Prior made a deal to give Copa 3 planes.

Nineteen major US companies have set up regional offices in Panama. Among them are 3M, Dell, and HP. Dell is located at Panama's Howard Air Force base which was given back to Panama by the United States in 1999. Much of the former military base is used to house call centers for technology companies.

This past July The administrator of the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), Salomon Shamah, has indicated that the government plans to transform the once stately Howard Air Force base into a major airport with intentions of attracting European tourists to the region. Already a number of northern Europeans have chosen to retire in Panama instead of Spain or France,

The base is located six miles southwest of Panama City and can be reached by crossing the Bridge of the Americas. Howard has a single 8500 foot runway. The most significant airport is that at Tocumen, which serves Panama City and has a 10,000 foot runway. One of two capable of handling all commercial airline types.

Economic Growth: Hotel and restaurant activity increased mainly through an increase of tourists in Panama city and the interior within of the Republic of Panama. Construction, and mining continue growing, as well as public and private investments. The exception was that of ships and net tonnage of containers moving through the Panama Canal.
